After Fantasy Store, one of the largest supermarkets in Malé, continued to provide its services despite an order by Community Health Service to close the store down, the Police have today forced the store to shut down.
Community Health Service ordered Fantasy Store to close down and temporarily stop trading after expired goods were found on display at the Store. The Store followed the notification and closed the shop, but again continued operations. The police then interfered by forcing the Store to close and starting inspection of the Store today.
Police Media Official and Sub-Inspector Ahmed Shiyam confirmed that Fantasy Store was closed down by the Police as it was open and serving customers.
“The Store was closed on a notification by Community Health Service. However, they opened the shop today without permission, and that is why we closed it down today. Under the circumstances, we need to check all the goods on display in the shop, and are now doing that”, said Shiyam.
Shiyam also said that the request for a Court Order to close Fantasy Store had not been heeded until now.
Fantasy Bakery and a Store owned by the owners of the Store and Bakery have also been closed down weeks ago, due to usage of expired items in preparation of baked food items, and due to storage of expired goods for use.
