President nominates Aishath Mohamed Didi to replace Shidhatha

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Thursday, accepted the resignation of Shidhatha Shareef and nominated Aishath Mohamed Didi, the Maldivian Ambassador to India, as her replacement as Gender Minister.

He made the announcement in a short statement via his official Twitter account in the afternoon.

The President’s choice for the next Gender Minister, Aishath received her higher education in the field of education.

She also has prior experience for the position she has now been chosen for, having served as Gender Minister from 2005-2008 during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s presidency.

Aishath, who continues to serve as the Maldivian Ambassador to India, had been President Solih’s first appointment to the head of a diplomatic mission, made on December 16, 2018.

She had served as the Executive Director (Academic) of Villa College prior to her appointment as the Maldivian Ambassador to India.

President Solih’s statement announcing his choice for the next Gender Minister came shortly after the former Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef bowed down to pressure and tendered her resignation.
