PPM calls for official condemnation of anti-Islam film

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has called on the government to officially condemn the US film mocking Prophet Muhammad, ‘Innocence of Muslims'.

President of PPM’s Religious branch Dr Afrasheem Ali made this statement at a press conference held today by PPM.

“PPM urges the Maldivian government to officially and publicly condemn the production of the film mocking Prophet Muhammad by extremist anti-Islam groups,” he said.

He said that PPM condemns this act in the strongest possible terms, and encouraged condemnation of the film until those responsible for it apologise.

Afrasheem also condemned the activities of Maldivians who protested against the film and burned the US flag near the UN Building in Male’, and said that such activities are against the principles of Islam.

“PPM does not support activities such as burning the US flag, cursing the US or damaging the property of the Embassy. Our party will always support justice,” he said.
