National Boating Association of the Maldives (NBAM) has warned the Tourism Employees Association of the Maldives (TEAM|) against crossing lines that may see the loss of rights of employees and employers.

The NBAM expressed concern at TEAM’s alleged demands from the Tourism Minister to provide a letter compelling resort management to pay a fee to the Labor party or TEAM for each resort employee, in a statement.

“As an organization that is actively embedded in the industry, we caution industry members and those working for the rights of industry members against crossing the limits to obtain what they are entitled to, which may result in staining the tourism industry of the Maldives” read a statement of NBAM.

After stating that TEAM and the Labor party had threatened him, the Tourism Minister Ali Waheed had tweeted that he would not give in to the demands of TEAM, which asked for a letter or document to compel resort management teams to pay a USD 6.50 charge to TEAM as a service charge rate for each resort employee.

TEAM was quick to deny that it had made such a demand and called on the Minister to provide proof of this allegation.

NBAM, on the other hand, has thanked the Tourism Minister and Ministry for its work to resolve the issue of service charges that have hit the spotlight recently.

The organization noted that the industry had become more efficient, and attained the love of investors, in one year, and that the sweetness of this transformation was beneficial to everyone in the industry.
