The first-ever flight to Fuvah Mulah, the one-island atoll in the Southern region of the Maldives, has landed today at the newly built regional airport in the island.
The test flight operated to Fuvah Mulah Regional Airport was Dash 8 Q2 620, operated from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Malé, and it landed at FM Airport at 15:35 today.
A large crowd of people, including senior officials of government offices, were gathered at the Airport to witness the historical event.
The test flight has been operated to check the status of the run-way, and the Civil Aviation Authority and Island Aviation would be using the reports following the test-flight in starting official operations at the new Airport. It has also been reported that the Civil Aviation Authority will use the reports of today’s test flight in deciding whether to give permission to operate flights to FM Regional Airport.
The FM Regional Airport is still under construction, with only the run-way in usable conditions fitting for an airport. The now 24-meter wide and 1200-meter long run-way would be 30-meter wide and 1200-meter long once the Airport is complete.
