Records released by the traffic management department of the police show 38 road accidents took place in Male’ City and its suburbs over the last one-week period from November 2 – November 8.
The records further reveal that 14 people sustained injuries in the road accidents, but no driving licenses were seized in response to the accidents.
The traffic police, however seized the driving licenses of five people in response to various traffic violations.
The traffic police checked a total of 689 vehicles, issued parking violation stickers to 753 vehicles, and towed 30 illegally parked vehicles over the past week.
The traffic police also responded to three cases of over speeding, 25 cases of driving while on the phone or using headsets, and 19 cases of traffic sign violations.
77 cases of unlicensed driving, and 44 cases of driving without the license in possession was recorded during the period.
The traffic police also responded to 17 cases of driving without the regulatory helmet, five cases of smoking while driving, and eight cases of driving without the vehicle lights on.
