Identities of the people who were behind the massive 70 kg drug bust at sea have been revealed by the authorities.
The men were arrested after an Iranian boat named “Al Shabaan” carrying 70 kgs of drugs was seized 172 miles (27.5 nautical miles) west of H.A Thuraakunu. Three sacks of drugs were found on the boat during the joint operation by coastguard and police. The drugs had a reported street value of MVR 59.2 million.
The six men on board the Iranian vessel were arrested as well as four men on a Maldivian boat named “Hedheykuri” that traveled to the area to collect the drugs. Three others were later arrested in connection with the crime.
The men who were leading the operation are:
Ali Anwar Mohamed (35y) from Cozycorner, S. Hithadhoo
Ahmed Shakeeb (42y) from Maathila, K. Dhiffushi
Mohamed Rishfan (23y) from Milano, Thundi, L. Gan
The men arrested on the “Hedheykuri” boat are:
Adam Misbah (39y) from Irumatheege, K. Dhiffushi
Mohamed Inaash (22y) from Itjehige, Thundi, L Gan
Ali Ahmed (24y) from Bangladesh
Thuhun (36y) from Bangladesh
Ali Anwar Mohamed who was arrested in this case also has a prior record for theft, while Mohamed Inaash had a prior record for gang violence. No others arrested in the case had prior records other than these two.
