The police have issued a public announcement asking for Dr. Fathimath Azra Naseem, 47, from H. Salvation in Male’ to present herself for questioning in connection to its investigation into Maldives Democracy Network (MDN)’s controversial 2016 report – Preliminary Assessment on Radicalization in the Maldives.

The police, in its announcement this Sunday, said that Dr. Azra was wanted for questioning in connection to the investigation into MDN’s report being carried out by the Serious and Organized Crime Department.

It said that police had been unable to deliver the summons for questioning to her because her current whereabouts were unknown and because her family also claim to have no knowledge of her current whereabouts.

According to the police, Dr. Azra is suspected of involvement in the report – which was found to have content which mock the Islamic faith and the Prophet, and incite religious division within the community.

She has been instructed to present herself for questioning to the police headquarters – Shaheed Hussain Adam Building – at 1 pm on November 5.

Dr. Azra is reported to be currently residing in Spain.

A police spokesperson, last Saturday, confirmed that several MDN officials have been sent summons for questioning in connection to its report.
