President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has condemned the actions of Israel and stated that Israel was violating the rights of Palestinian citizens at a rate previously unseen.

The President was speaking at the United Nations 74th General Assembly when he directed the strong words of criticism against Israel. The President also noted that solving the Palestinian conflict has been on the agenda of the UN for years and yet still has not seen any success in the cause.

"Israel is challenging international laws and UN resolutions. They are also treating Palestinians in an authoritative manner not seen before and violating the fundamental rights of these citizens." said the President.

The President also stated that the Maldives truly believed that the conflict of Palestine can only be solved by creating two states and called for dialogue between Israel and Arab nations, before calling on the UN and its members to work for this.

The address at the UN also highlighted issues such as racism, world peace, political extremism, terrorism, and global warming.

This is the first time after 2012 that a Maldivian president is addressing the UN. The last President to do so was President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik. It was former foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon, Dr. Mohamed Asim, former Ambassador to America Dr. Ali Naseer and former President Dr. Waheed who represented the Maldives during the administration of President Yameen.
