Action will be taken against Police Officers who caused damage to MDP Haruge and Police HQ: PIC

Police Integrity Commission (PIC) has said that it will investigate and take action against the Police Officers who caused damage to MDP Haruge and Police Headquarters.

PIC’s report on the events of 6 and 7 February states that a group of Police Officers broke into MDP Haruge on the night of 6 February, injured members of the public, and caused damage to property at the Haruge.

Nonetheless, the report notes that the purpose of this break in by the Police was to arrest a person who had attacked a Police Officer at Artificial Beach.

Detailing the damage caused to the Police Headquarters, the report states that windows were broken, the flag was lowered, several senior Officers were threatened, and assault took place between several Officers.

These activities are criminal and disciplinary offences by Police Officers, notes PIC’s report.

PIC signed an agreement with Independent Institutions last Sunday, to investigate and take action against offences by Police Officers on 6 and 7 February.
