The Government had endorsed a document drawn by the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party, accusing Former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom of trying to get back to power using the Judiciary as it is the only mean of achieving it in a peaceful manner.
The document issued by the Interim Chairperson of MDP, Moosa Manik, was forwarded through the Foreign Ministry, stated that Maumoon is using “the tactics of the former Criminal Code” in order to get back to power.
The letter also said Maumoon’s efforts posed a threat to the Maldives’ fragile democratic transition.
According to the Interim Chairperson of MDP, Moosa Manik, the endorsement sent to UN by the Party has accused Maumoon’s supporters of having injured the boy, in the unrest held outside Endherimaage.
The document also accused Maumoon of trying to get his son Ghassan the Thimarafushi seat in the Parliament through the help of the Judiciary, which accounts for the lawsuit against the current holder of Thimamarafushi seat in the Parliament, MP Musthafa from MDP.
MDP also accused the Judges in the Judiciary as been put there by Maumoon in his regime and said that the judges are still walking under Maumoon’s directions.
The endorsement forwarded to the International missions request assistance to the work of MDP to build and retain a just judiciary. It also reads that repeatedly given advice to the Judiciary, by the President himself or from the various International Organizations, had been unheeded by the Judiciary.
