The Parliament is scheduled to make its decision regarding appointing Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon to the Supreme Court on Tuesday, September 3.

The Judiciary Committee backed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s nominees Azmiralda and Shujoon to the Supreme Court last week.

The committee is scheduled to present its recommendations on Tuesday, after which the Parliament will engage in debate, and take a vote over the appointment.

The committee made its decision without interviewing any of the applicants to the Supreme Court.

Azmiralda had previously served as a High Court judge and Shujoon had previously served as a Civil Court judge.

If appointed, Azmiralda and Shujoon will make history as the first female justices to serve at the country’s top court.
