The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe has arrived in the Maldives today.
Mr. Wickremesinghe was welcomed by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid at Velana International Airport. He is scheduled to hold talks between the Maldives and Sri Lanka to strengthen the ties between the countries and collaborate on developing the countries in different areas, according to the President's Office.
Mr. Wickremesinghe is in the Maldives following an invitation extended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Several agreements between the two countries are also expected to be signed during this trip. Mr. Wickremesinghe will give an address at the parliament and will chair the Indian Ocean Conference 2019, scheduled to begin tomorrow.
The PM is also joined by a delegation of senior Sri Lankan officials and his wife professor Maitree Wickremasinghe.
