Ilham Ahmed, Member of Parliament and prominent leader of Progressive Party of the Maldives, has said today that the Maldives Police Services had not conducted investigations of an incident of battery against him committed by an MP from the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party during a Majlis Committee meeting.
Ilham had said that it was Ibrahim Rasheed, MDP Member and MP for Maafannu Dhekunu Constituency, had attacked him with a glass which injured his chest.
Ilham said that the police had not conducted necessary investigations although two days have passed since the incident. He accused the police of acting in accord with the instructions of the government.
“The police have not enquired into the matter. They have not done so much as taking a statement from me. They are doing it that way because it was an MDP member who did the wrong here”, said Ilham tonight.
On the other hand, the Police denied Ilham’s claims and said that they had been investigating the incident.
MP Ibrahim Rasheed said that “Ilham has cooked up this story” and that he never attacked him with a glass.
