For ages, hospitals in South Indian cities such as Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi have been the most sort after destinations for Maldivians traveling abroad for medical purposes. However, getting good medical treatment from these hospitals has proven to be quite expensive.
Rajagiri Hospital in Kochi, on the other hand—which is a mission-run hospital provides top class medical services affordable to the ordinary person as well.

He also pointed out that treatment for Thalassemia, a common medical issue in the Maldives, is available at the hospital and stated that the Hemato-oncology department is well equipped and ready to provide the best of services.
"Thalassemia is a common disease in the Maldives. It is a difficult task to find doctors to treat this disease even in India. However, I can guarantee that the services available at Rajagiri Hospital for Thalassemia patients are top class," said Fr. Vazhappilly.
The hospital is equipped with 12 ultra-modern operation theatres including one international standard hybrid operation theatre ensuring that complicated surgeries such as Open, Endoscopic, Laparoscopic and robotic as well as image-guided operations can be carried out the hospital.
The Radiology department at Rajagiri Hospital is fully-fledged, with top of the class MRI and CT scan equipment. The Hospital also provides the services of an Electro Neuro Psychology lab as well as Traditional Ayurveda medicine services.
Fr. Vazhappilly stated that the hospital had been in partnership with other hospitals in the Middle-east and Africa and that the idea of forming a partnership with the Maldives came after meeting the Maldivian Ambassador Aishath Mohamed Didi at a conference regarding health.
A delegation from the hospital visited the Maldives last month, meeting key figures in the health industry of the country and holding discussions with them. These discussions showed that the easiest and best way to assist the Maldives in the health industry was to introduce telemedicine services to the country.

In addition to holding talks with the government, Rajagiri hospital team also met and held discussions with private clinics in the country as well.

The Rajagiri Hospital’s team also stated that the hospital was ready to assist in operational matters, consultancy, and even training doctors and clinical staff in the Maldives.
