CNI

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) has not been accepted by any country.

Speaking at Usfasgandu last night, Nasheed said that the governments of the UK, Australia and Canada, and the European Union simply noted the release of the report; while neighbouring India has not yet said anything about the report.

Referring to the case filed against him for the illegal detention of Criminal Court Judge Abdullah Mohamed, Nasheed said that the authorities will not be successful in completing the prosecution process.

He said that the trial will bring the judiciary system of the Maldives to the attention of the world, and will show the world that justice is not delivered in the Courts of the Maldives.

Nasheed said that he is not worried about his trial, as it would only result in revealing to the world that the Courts of Maldives do not follow procedures, and are operated by political influence.

He expressed full confidence that he will contest and win the Presidential Election.

He said that his presidential campaign will begin today, following which he is planned to travel to R. Alifushi tonight. He will visit five islands as part of this trip.

Nasheed claims that no country has accepted the report of the CNI; however the US, the UN and the Commonwealth have issued statements accepting the report and urging all stakeholders to follow the report.
