The Deputy Vice-Chancellors of Maldives National University Ms. Aishath Shaaheen and Mr. Muaviyath Mohamed has been removed from the posts.
Mr. Muaviyath has confirmed to "Sun" that they were removed from the posts.
"A management meeting was held in the morning today where we were notified. We have not yet received written termination letters," said Mr. Muaviyath.
The termination of two of the highest posts at the institution comes not long after the University law was amended published in the gazette. The amended law states that the post of Vice-Chancellor must be elected through the MNU council and until the new council was formed the current posts of Vice-Chancellor will remain as it is.
The amended law also states that the council must be formed within 30 days of the law being published in the gazette. The termination of the two Deputy Chancellors today come before the period of 30 days lapsed. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also appointed Dr. Hassan Hameed as the Chancellor of MNU and Dr. Mohamed Shareef as the Vice cHANCELLOR of MNU yesterday.
