China to help establish an eye clinic in Hulhumale’

An agreement has been signed with China for the advancement of Ophthalmology in the Maldives. The agreement was signed between the Health Ministry of Maldives and the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China. 

Under this agreement, China will help establish an eye clinic at Hulhumale’ Hospital in addition to providing the necessary equipment. Chinese ophthalmology specialists will also examine patients at the clinic and will provide training for Maldivian nurses and doctors.

China has held Ophthalmology camps in the Maldives in 2015 and 2017, where nearly 1000 patients were screened and 186 cataract surgeries were carried out. China has also donated MVR 9.2 million worth of equipment to the Maldives.

Establishing an ophthalmology clinic was part of the agreement signed between Maldivian and the Chinese government in 2017 for cooperation and assistance in the medical sector.
