Moosa Manik requests PG to delay filing cases against MDP supporters to Court

Chairman of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Reeko Moosa Manik has requested the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office to postpone filing cases against MDP supporters to Court, as no cases have been filed against Police Officers for their alleged illegal activities.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with PG Ahmed Muizz this afternoon, Moosa Manik said that more than 1,000 arrests have been made since 7 February, and cases against most of these people have been submitted to the PG Office.

Moosa Manik detailed that 200 of these cases have been filed to Court, while more than 70 of these people have been charged with terrorism.

He said that those arrested are also requested to remain in Male’ for long periods of time, following cases being filed against them to Court.

“The PG listened carefully to everything,” Moosa Manik said.

The Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) also earlier pointed out that the Police carried out several inhumane activities against protesters during the unrest on 8 February 2012.
