Discussions between the leaders of political parties represented in the Parliament, ‘Leaders’ Dialogue’ has been scheduled to commence today.
A participant of these meetings said that he had received in invitation to attend the first meeting from 16:00 to 18:00 today at Velaanaage.
Sun Online understands that the meeting will be attended by Dhivehi Qaumee Party (DQP) Leader Riyaz Rasheed, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Reeko Moosa Manik, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Parliamentary Group Leader Abdullah Yameen.
The government will be represented by the President’s appointee, Political Advisor to the President Ahmed Thaufeeg.
The decision was made at a meeting held at Bandos Island Resort between the President and leaders of political parties last Thursday night, to change the name of the All-party-talks to Leaders’ Dialogue, and to only include the leaders of the political parties represented in the Parliament in these discussions.
The participants of the All-party-talks had agreed on an agenda including a list of topics to be discussed.
The plan for the Leaders’ Dialogue is to continue with this agenda.
The topics of discussion on this agenda are resolving the current conflicts, addressing the current financial situation, changing the posts of independent institutions, understanding which laws need revision and creation, and discussing about a date for an early election.
