Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has made the decision to investigate Criminal Court Judge Hassan Najeeb and High Court Judge Shujau Usman for possible ethical violations.

The decision was made during the commission’s meeting this Monday.

At a press conference this Monday evening, Director of JSC, Hassan Zaheen announced that the commission has decided to purse probes on one High Court judge and one Criminal Court judge.

Though Zaheen did not name the judges, ‘Sun’ has been able to confirm the judges in question are Hassan Najeeb and Shujau Usman.

Cases have been lodged at JSC against both judges for actively participating in the presidential campaign of former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. An additional case has been filed against Judge Hassan Najeeb for lobbying support for Ali Shameem – a candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) - during the local council elections in 2017.

Additional cases against judges being probed by JSC includes the multiple cases against Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi, and the case against Chief Magistrate Mohamed Raaib Ahmed for sexual harassment of multiple women.
