President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) has revealed the truth behind the events of 7 February 2012.

In a statement issued by PPM today, Gayoom expressed happiness over CNI’s findings that the change of government was legal.

Gayoom expressed his gratitude to God, for saving the country from the brutal reign of former President Nasheed, which was the result of the efforts of members of PPM and citizens of Maldives who fought to defend our judiciary, rule of law, our religion and nation.

He also thanked the leaders and members of other parties of the coalition for their contributions, and congratulated President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s government.

Gayoom expressed hope that members of PPM will remain steadfast in defending and protecting our religion and nation.
