Former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has congratulated President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on the ruling party’s landslide victory in the parliamentary elections held last Saturday.

Interim results place the ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) well on its way to a supermajority at the Parliament with over 60 seats.

It a tweet congratulating President Solih on MDP’s election victory this Sunday morning, Maumoon noted that the victory would help President Solih and his administrations to deliver on its electoral pledges.

He also pledged the continued support of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) to Solih’s administration.

Interim results are now out on majority of the ballot boxes. Initial projections show only one of the candidates Maumoon endorsed - Abdul Muhsin Hameed (JeyFour) – will win a seat at the next Parliament.
