Ali Waheed proposes to summon Chief Justice and Chief Judge of High Court to Majlis committee

Thoddoo MP, Ali Waheed, has proposed to summon Chief Justice of Maldives and the Chief Judge of the High Court to the Committee on independent institutions in relation to the vacancy of the Kaashidhoo constituency seat due to the sentence imposed on the Kaashidhoo MP Abdul Hameed by the Criminal Court.

Ali Waheed told Sun that when he proposed to summon Chief Justice of Maldives and the Chief Judge of the High Court to the Committee on independent institutions, Ihavandhoo MP, Ahmed Abdulla had seconded it. He also assured that the reason for his proposal was only to clear a concern he had and does not in any way relate to personal or ill-feeling toward them or the judiciary they represent.

Although it was propped to summon Justice of Maldives and the Chief Judge of the High Court to the Committee on independent institutions, the Committee did not go for a vote on it. Instead it was agreed that the proposal will be asked for a voting on the committee meeting on next Monday.

Ali stressed that the case of MP Abdul Hameed’s cases is not alone a case of Abdul Hameed. He said that the case has connection to a lot of people’s rights and privileges. And the fact that, the case is being stretched and delayed this long is a matter of concern to a lot of people. Ali also said that he does not believe that the Kaashidhoo constituency seat is yet vacated.

The mishap is going on about the vacancy of MP Abdul Hameed’s seat, after the Criminal Court sentenced Abdul Hameed to one year and six months banishment after he was found guilty of abusing his authority to financially benefit a particular person resulting in corruption.

MP Ismail Abdul Hameed for corruption, as it had been notified by Hameed that he would appeal the decision at the High Court and would wait until the judicial procedure was concluded.

Although so far there have been verdicts regarding the case, MP Ismail Abdul Hameed has already appealed the decision at the High Court and even issued a Press Statement in defend of himself. The High Court has not yet started its judicial procedure on the case.
