The Police have strengthened security and alerted Police Stations in islands other than Male’, to ensure that the events of 8 February 2012 are not repeated.
The Head of Police Divisional Operational Command, Farhad Fikry made this statement at a press conference held at Iskandar koshi today.
“The incidents of 8 February are under investigation by various authorities, as well as the Police Professional Standard to see if there was any negligence on their part. I believe that Addu Atoll, Fuvahmulah, and other regions of the Maldives are currently well-prepared,” Fikry said.
He also informed that Hithadhoo Police Station and L. Isdhoo Police Station are now operational, after being closed due to damage caused on 8 February.
The Police Stations which were closed due to Police Officers being forced to leave on 8 February are Gdh. Fares maathoda, Ga. Kolamafushi, Th. Vilifushi, B. Thulhaadhoo and Sh. Milandhoo Police Stations.
Services at these Stations will be resumed after investigation of why they had to be closed down.
He noted the importance of Police services, and said that three Police Stations were established over the past two months, and four more will be established soon.
