President to make campaign appearance in K. Guraidhoo

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to make an appearance at a parliament elections campaign event by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in K. Guraidhoo this Tuesday night.

President’s Spokesperson, Ibrahim Hood reports the President will travel to Guraidhoo this Tuesday night, and return to Male’ City following conclusion of the campaign function.

MDP has announced all campaign events and trips, including ones where the President will make an appearance, will be funded by the party itself.

MDP’s candidate for the Guraidhoo constituency is former Minister of Transport, Mohamed Adheel Saleem.

Other contestants for the constituency include current Guraidhoo MP Ibrahim Riza – who as applied for re-election as Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s candidate, and three independent candidates; Islamic scholar Saamiya Zakariyya, Hussain Niyaz, and Attorney Mohamed Shah – who has the endorsement of former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

President Solih was MDP’s top lawmaker prior to assuming office in 2018.

86 MDP candidates are contesting the parliamentary elections – which will be held on April 6.

The President is also scheduled to make an appearance at MDP’s campaign tour of Addu City from March 8 – March 10.
