Reduction in price of electricity is a huge priority under Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s legislative agenda, Agenda 19, says former Maldivian President and Leader of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking during the campaign launching event of MDP’s candidate for the Maafushi constituency, Adheel Saleem, Nasheed announced that MDP wanted to assure the public it will reduce the price of electricity under Agenda 19.

“There’s no need to consider if its above 100 units or above whatnot,” said Nasheed.

He said MDP envisioned economic prosperity for all Maldivian citizens under Agenda 19.

He said that Maafushi made the largest tax contribution to the State by a single island, and that the development of Maafushi was often used as an example by global organizations such as the World Bank.

Nasheed also announced the land reclamation project in Maafushi project will be run according to principles of decentralization.

It will be completed in approximately 10 days once councils are fully decentralized, said Nasheed.
