Civil Court has issued a ruling that MVR8.3 million should be paid by Centre Enterprises to Maldives Customs Service, as fine following fraud in the import of a crane to Maldives in 2009.
This amount is to be settled by Centre Enterprises within one month.
Customs Service had fined Centre Enterprises in 2009 for MVR5.9 million under import/export regulations, following the presentation of forged import-duty documents in which the price of the crane stated was lower than its actual price.
Due to the forgery, Centre Enterprises was notified to pay additional MVR2.4 million, resulting in a total of MVR8.3 million, within three days from 16 February 2009.
Civil Court stated in its ruling yesterday that according to existing documents, Centre Enterprises had failed to pay this amount to Customs Service despite being reminded on three separate occasions.
It therefore ruled that Centre Enterprises should complete this payment to Customs Service within one month.
