No parliamentary candidate, except for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidates, has the support and endorsement of Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, says former Maldivian President and Leader of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed.
Nasheed made the comment during the ceremony held at the MDP Haruge this Saturday morning to launch display of campaign posters of MDP parliamentary candidates.
Speaking during the ceremony, Nasheed said that neither he, nor Solih, wanted any MDP member to vote for any candidate except for an MDP candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
He said the votes of MDP members were alone enough to secure the party’s candidates a place in the next Parliament.
“He [Solih] will not support any candidate except for candidates from this party. Talk suggesting otherwise should not be believed by us, or any other member of this party. In Sha Allah, things are going as I mentioned,” said Nasheed, who himself is MDP’s candidate for the Central Machangolhi seat.
During the ceremony, Nasheed refuted claims by candidates from other political parties or independent candidates who have claimed to have the support of Solih.
Nasheed also spoke of the MDP’s campaign slogan, Agenda ’19, which details its legislative agenda for the current year.
Nasheed said the Agenda ’19 contained 19 main legislative frameworks, each with multiple legislations.
He challenged critics of the Agenda ’19, specifically critics of its judicial reform agenda, to come up with better legislative solutions.
“I want to ask [former Vice President] Dr. Jameel, if you don’t find the Agenda ’19 to your liking, what solutions do you propose to reform the judiciary?”
