Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the serial robberies in R. Maakurath on Thursday night.
The serial robberies involved hits on Maakurath Council headquarters, Maakurath Health Center office and Maakurath Magistrate Court office. The amount of cash stolen is valued at over MVR 100,000.
Maldives Police Service reports it made two more arrests in connection with the robberies this Saturday.
The two new suspects have been identified as a 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old man.
The 38-year-old man was arrested from the uninhabited island of R. Dhongali, while the 34-year-old man was arrested from on board a boat off the coast of R. Inguraidhoo.
The latest arrests push the total number of suspects in custody in connection with the case to six.
MPS arrested four suspects earlier this Saturday; a 62-year-old man – the security guard on duty at the Maakurath Council headquarters on Thursday night, two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old man.
The most amount of money in the robberies was taken from the safe at the Maakurath Council headquarters – which had over MVR 83,000. The robbers also stole MVR 16,000 from the health center and MVR 3,000 from the magistrate court.
