Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is scheduled to travel to neighboring Sri Lanka in February to attend the celebrations to mark the country’s 71st Independence Day.

Sri Lanka gained its independence from British rule on February 4, 1948.

President’s Spokesperson, Ibrahim Hoodh has confirmed the planned visit to ‘Sun’.

The invitation to attend Sri Lankan Independence Day celebrations was extended to Solih by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.

Solih will be in Lanka from February 3 – 5.

Solih made an unofficial visit to Lanka earlier this month, and recently met with the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Maldives, Major General (Retired) B.R.W.M.R.A.B Thoradeniya, during which he described Lanka as “one of the Maldives’ strongest friends and development partners.”
