Heavy rain since this afternoon has left Dh. Meedhoo flooded, and posed several difficulties for the people of the island.
Meedhoo Council Vice President Moosa Ahmed said tonight that water has entered some houses, causing damage to people’s property.
“It’s difficult to walk on the streets, some areas have been flooded up to 1.5 ft. Cupboards, sofas at people’s homes have been damaged,” he said.
MNDF and Police are currently working on managing the floods, while people are sandbagging doorways to prevent water from going inside houses.
MNDF said that reports of floods in Meedhoo were received at around 14:30 today, following which the Firemen at the Fire and Rescue post, Coast Guard MNDF Officers and Police Officers in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo have been deployed to Meedho.
Department of Meteorology said that heavy rain will be experienced in mid and north Maldives over the next two days.
