MDP advises not to create violence in relation to CNI

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has claimed that they had received information that the Police have plans to create violence in Male’ on the day the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) publishes its report, and advised the Police against doing so.

MDP expressed concern through a press statement yesterday over the fact that the group of Police Officers who protested on the day the government changed are planning to take to the streets and create unrest in Male’.

The statement also says that reports that a group of Police Officers will take to the streets to protect the government in the event that the CNI states in its report that the government was changed through a coup, are true; and that these reports are being spread by those few Police Officers who participated in the protest.

Highlighting that such activities would result in serious damage being caused to the Maldivian people, MDP requested patriotic Police and MNDF Officers to closely monitor the activities of those other Police Officers.

President Dr Waheed said yesterday that unrest will not be tolerated on Thursday, when the CNI publishes its report.

He said that strict action will be taken against anyone who attempts to create violence.
