This year’s National Poet’s Day has been dedicated to the works of famous Maldivian poet and writer, the deceased Yoosuf Mohamed Fulhu.
Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Yumna Maumoon, in her address on occasion of National Poet’s Day, this Tuesday, announced this year’s celebrations will pay special tribute to Yoosuf Mohamed Fulhu.
Yumna announced all official National Poet’s Day celebrations will be held at Yoosuf Mohamed Fulhu’s island of birth, R. Inguraidhoo.
Yoosuf Mohamed Fulhu, during his lifetime, produced valuable works of poetry and literature, which is still being praised today.
In her address, Yumna described poetry as the most delicate art in the field of of literature. She highlighted on the responsibility of those working in the field of literature to rejuvenate and develop the art of poetry. And said that lhen and raiveru – forms of Maldivian poetry – were part of national heritage which needs to be protected and delivered to future generations.
“Every poet needs to be celebrated. They deserve gratitude and praise,” said Yumna.
Dhivehi Bahuge Academy is scheduled to hold a function to celebrate National Poet’s Day at the Rasrani Bageecha this Tuesday night.
