Elections Commission has granted permission to form a new political party – People’s Action Party (PAP).
Spokesperson and member of EC, Ahmed Akram says the permission was granted to PAP’s founder, Shuaib Ali Rasheed this Tuesday.
Shuaib has previously requested to form a political party in the name of Maldives Action Party (MAP), but the application was rejected by EC after it found the name inappropriate for a political party.
A second name, The Great Green Connection was also rejected by EC for the same reason.
The application to form PAP follows in the heels of permission to three new political parties; Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD), Maldives Labor and Social Democratic Party (MLDSP) and Gaumee Vindhu Party.
Meanwhile, Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has also applied to form a new party, People’s National Congress (PNC) through Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
