Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage has announced the decision to hold a public forum to discuss a new home of the historic Kalhuvakaru Mosque.

The public forum, organized by Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage in collaboration with Male’ City Council, will be held at the Rasrani Bageecha at 8:45 next Wednesday night.

Kalhuvakaru Mosque was built in the 18th century during Sultan Hassan Nooradeen Iskandhar's reign.

Built using coral stones and lacquered woodwork, and without use of any form of motor, all pieces of the mosque are designed to fit together like pieces of a puzzle.

The mosque was disassembled and moved from its last location, adjacent to the Sultan’s Park (now Rasrani Bageecha), where it had been for over 30 decades, in 2016 to develop the park.

The previous administration decided on relocating the mosque to G. Dh. Thinadhoo, but later announced it will be relocated to the Heritage Island planned for Hulhumale Phase II.

Locating the Kalhuvakaru Mosque and finding it a new home was one of the current administration’s first 100-day goals.

The disassembled parts of the mosque were found in the National Museum and are now currently under the care of the ministry.
