The grieving family of eight-year-old Rawshan Jian – who succumbed to injures from a construction accident – have returned to Bangladesh.
A family member reported to ‘Sun’ that Rawshan Jian’s parents left for Bangladesh with her body at 9 pm last Monday.
The eight-year-old girl was walking on the pavement next to W Construction’s site, M. Nalahiya Manzil, on Sunday morning, when a cement sack being hoisted from the fifth floor to the sixth floor hit the side of the building and burst open – loosening the rope around it and throwing it down directly on top of her head.
She suffered massive internal injuries and being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital after emergency surgery when she passed away just after noon last Monday.
Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is currently on a State visit to India, called Rawshan Jian’s parents to convey his condolences.
Former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Vice President Faisal Naseem and Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen, among others, visited Rawshan Jian’s parents to express their sympathies.
Rawshan Jian was the daughter of a Bangladeshi couple to resided in F. Atoll – where the mother worked as a medical doctor.
The family was in Male’ City to make visa arrangements when the tragedy occurred.
Male’ City Council has suspended W Construction’s license, and a number of high-profile figures have called for criminal charges against W Construction.
