India and Sri Lanka informed of MDP

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that senior officials of India and Sri Lanka have been informed of Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) plans after the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) publishes its report.

Nasheed made this statement last night at Male’ International Airport, upon his return from a visit to India and Sri Lanka.

He said that in his meeting with the senior officials of India and Sri Lanka, he highlighted specifically the importance of taking action against the few Police and MNDF officers for their crimes.

Despite reporters being present at the airport last night in anticipation of Nasheed’s arrival, Nasheed chose to talk only to reporters Raajje TV.

MDP has stated that if the CNI decides that the transfer of power was according to the Constitution and did not involve any illegal activities, the next presidential election should be held next year as per the Constitution; however, if the government was changed illegally, power should be returned to MDP.

Supporters of MDP gathered at Jetty No.4 at 01:15 last night, to welcome Nasheed as he returned from his first unofficial trip abroad since the change of government.
