8 arrested in connection with theft of laptops from IUM

Authorities have arrested eight suspects in connection with the theft of laptops from the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).

Maldives Police Service says the theft of the laptops of the fourth floor of the university was reported to the authority at 7:45 pm on October 29.

MPS said through a joint operation by General Investigation Department and Police Intelligence, the authority has recovered the laptops and some other electronic items stolen from IUM.

And that eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft identified as three Maldivian males and five foreigners. The foreigners involved in the case are all illegal expatriates, reports MPS.

The three Maldivian males have been remanded to 10 days in custody and the foreigners have been handed over to Maldives Immigration.

MPS said the authority also arrested a suspect on October 29 in connection with the theft of laptops from Asters. The suspect, identified as a 39-year-old Maldivian male, has been remanded to 10 days in custody.
