Flooding affects streets of Male’ City again

Extensive flooding due to rain has affected streets of Male’ City for a second time in just one week.

Male’ City has been affected by raining since dawn this Tuesday, and Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that individuals have tampered with the drainage system installed in the city.

Maldives Meteorological Service reports the heavy rain throughout the country is effects of the South West Monsoon (Hulhangu Monsoon).

The agency forecasts torrential rain to affect the entire K. Atoll throughout this Tuesday. And has issued Yellow Alert to the area from 8 am to 11 am this Tuesday.

The agency says heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecasted to affect islands in Central and Southern Maldives for the next 24 hours.

Surface winds will be west / northwesterly at 05 – 15 miles per hour in northern atolls and southwest / westerly at 10 – 20 miles per hour elsewhere. Winds may gust to 35 miles per hour during showers

Surface winds will be southwest/westerly at 10 – 20 miles per hour in Central and Southern atolls with winds gust up to 35 miles per hour during showers. And surface winds will be west/northwesterly at 5 – 15 miles per hour in the Northern atolls, reports the Maldives Meteorological Service.

The capital, Male’ City is facing extensive flooding due to the rain.
