Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to open candidacy for the President of the party.

Spokesperson of JP, Ali Solih announced tonight that a decision was made last night at the 123rd Council Meeting to open the candidacy for the President of JP. The decision was made with the unanimous vote of all 60 members who took part in it. Ali Solih said that the party is working to elect a Leader in the shortest possible time frame that the regulation allows.

The former JP Leader, Qasim Ibrahim lost the position after the Criminal Court found him guilty of bribery and sentenced him to prison.

At the JP Congress held on 28 June 2018, the duties of the Party Leader were entrusted with Deputy Leader of Jumhooree Party, Hussain Rasheed Hassan.

The JP Congress also made changes to the Party Regulations which states that if the Party Leader cannot fulfill the duties of their position, the duties would be entrusted to a person decided by the Party Council.

When the JP Congress was underway, Qasim Ibrahim was serving a prison. However, his sentence was overturned today.
