Maldives Police Service has confiscated the mobile phones of four members of the Haa Alifu Ihavandhoo Island Council.
Councilor Mohamed Mafaz has confirmed to Sun Media that the phones of four Councilors under a court order. Mafaz said that the court order stated to collect the phones of five Councilors but his mobile cell phone was not taken.
It is unclear as to why the phones of the Ihavandhoo Council were confiscated.
On 31 May, five Councilors of the Ihavandhoo Council were suspended after allegedly obstructing employees of the Housing Ministry. And the Local Government Authority (LGA) has filed a case with the Police to investigate the matter.
