President of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef, has said that the re-registration forms submitted by MDP and the opposition coalition does not exceed 10,000.
Speaking at an opposition press conference last night, the Deputy Chairperson, Ali Niyaz, said that the opposition has not received the original slip for the 10,000 re-registration forms they have submitted.
When Sun Media asked the Elections Commission President regarding the matter, Shareef said that MDP has not filed 10,000 re-registration forms.
He said that so far 27,000 re-registration forms have been submitted and that does not include 10,000 forms from MDP.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed tweeted last night saying that 17,000 of the 24,000 re-registration forms submitted at the Elections Commission are from the opposition.
The last day of re-registration was recently extended to 17 August.
