Eight kilos of drugs seized during smuggling

Maldives Customs have said that they have seized a combined weight of 8.25 kg of drugs over the course of three occasions during the search of luggage from travelers coming in to the country this month.  

Customs said that on 18 July, they checked the luggage of a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national who arrived in the country from Dhaka due to his suspicious behavior and found four parcels of suspected drugs. 

The substance tested positive for drugs and had a combined weight of 5.46 kg. 

The second seize this month was from a luggage search of a 23-year-old woman who came to the country from Tanzania on 19 July. The suspected drugs tested positive for heroin and weight 2.05 kg in weight. 

The third seize was from a 31-year-old Maldivian who returned to the country from India who was searched following intelligence information received to the Customs Service to find 771 grams.

Customs said that the custody of the people arrested and the drugs seized from them have been handed over to the Maldives Police Service.
