President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s running mate, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed says he will not resign from his position as Chancellor of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM).
Speaking at a press conference held at Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) headquarters this Monday afternoon, Dr. Shaheem said that though he had previously announced his intention of resigning from his post as Chancellor upon being selected as Yameen’s running mate, he has decided not to resign from the post at the request of Yameen.
He said the Attorney General Mohamed Anil has said there is no legal constraint to him continuing to serve as Chancellor of IUM.
Dr. Shaheem said he will retain his position as Chancellor and continue to serve the university at an advisory level despite campaigning for the Presidential Elections 2018.
Al-Usthazah Aisha Khaleela Abdul Sattar has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of IUM, and will be in charge of running the university.
