Former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has filed for appeal of his one-year and seven-month prison sentence for obstruction of justice with the High Court.
Maumoon’s attorneys filed the appeal this Sunday.
Maumoon’s attorneys have confirmed the submission, but it is not yet clear what points the appeal is based on.
Criminal Court sentenced Maumoon to prison for obstruction of justice on June 13. The court found him guilty based on witness testimony and document evidence.
Former Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and former Supreme Court judge Ali Hameed have also been sentenced to one-year and seven-months in prison in the same case.
