Maldives and US sign Memorandum of Intent on cooperation against terrorism

The Maldivian and US authorities have signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) under which the two governments would cooperate with each other in counter-terrorism measures.

Under the MoI, the US Government would lend support to the Maldives to develop and solidify her anti-terrorism agencies and strategies.

Ahmed Faseeh, Commissioner of Police, signed the MoI on behalf of the Maldivian government, and Patricia Butenis, the US Ambassador for Sri Lanka, signed it on behalf of her government. The MoI was signed on the 4th of this month.

In accordance with the MoI, the Anti-Terrorist Assistance Program of the US Department of State shall provide the Maldives with assistance on establishing systems that will be utilized in identifying terrorist activities and dealing with them, and in carrying out counter-terrorism efforts by cooperating with each other.
