A man has been severely burned after an explosion on a fuel vessel operated by the company Hawks in the lagoon of Raa atoll Ungufaaru.
Vice President of the Ungufaaru Island Council, Abdulla Hussain told Sun Media tonight that such an incident did take place and the police are at the scene. He said that the burn victim in the incident is a Sri Lankan national.
A man who spoke from Ungufaaru said that said that an explosion took place after the Isha prayers and a the man injured in the explosion was taken to the Raa Atoll Regional Hospital in Ungufaaru.
He said that the explosion on board the vessel was very loud.
Sun Media has learned that the injured man had 40 percent burns.
Police Media Officer tonight said that they have reports of an explosion and the police are at the scene. And the injured man is being treated at the hospital.
MNDF Media Officer said that the fire on the vessel was reported around 9:02 p.m. tonight and the fire was controlled by the crew of the vessel with the firefighting equipment on board. The Media Officer said that the fire started on the boat's generator.
