MDP will not treat Police and MNDF badly: Nasheed

The former President and Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) presidential candidate Mohamed Nasheed has said that MDP will not treat Police and MNDF officers badly.

He said via the MDP website that however, action must be taken against the ‘traitor’ officers of Police and MNDF, as they conducted a low-class act by participating in a coup while in uniform.

He said that photos and videos of 7 February show the activities conducted by officers of Police and MNDF against the first democratically elected government of Maldives, and that if their crimes go unpunished, the country may suffer damage beyond repair.

He reiterated that the actions of the Police and MNDF officers also reinforce the Maldivian culture of overthrowing governments by conducting coups.

Nasheed noted that it was a few Police and MNDF officers who participated in the ‘coup’ and ruined the reputation of the Police and MNDF institutions, and highlighted that there are thousands of Police and MNDF officers who do not obey the orders of the ‘coup’ government.
