VP to act as President

Vice President (VP) Mohamed Waheeddeen (Deen) has been appointed as President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s delegate at the peace talks between political party leaders.

A statement issued by the Parliament Office indicates that following a meeting held between Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid and President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik, it has been decided that VP Deen and leaders of political parties will meet to discuss on assurance of a peaceful atmosphere for Parliament Sittings to proceed.

The Parliament has not yet announced a date for these discussions to commence.
